The elevated 1930s railroad track in New York City has been transformed into an innovative and contemporary public park. TIME’s Richard Lacayo takes a tour with one of the designing architects, Ricardo Scofido.

The High Line is 1,6km urban park which runs along the lower west side of Manhattan. A similar project took place is Parisand was completed in 1993: Promenade PlantĂ©e. The High Line Park currently runs from Gansevoort Street, three blocks below West 14th Street, in the Meatpacking District, up to30th Street, through the neighbourhood of Chelsea to the West Side Yard, near the Javits Convention Center.
