The #FutureOfCities Imaging Project Wants Your Photos

FoC LogoThe #FutureofCities Forum held in Munich last week was a dynamic affair. Sustainable Cities Collective was a media partner and we will be posting an interview later with Peter Marland, the leader of Milton Keynes Council, who gave an inspiring talk on leadership.

The event was organised by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the World Future Council and Energy Cities. Delegates came away feeling inspired and empowered by the huge number of positive developments in cities around the world on sustainable development.

A special project was launched under Sony's Global Imaging Ambassadors program, with Panos Pictures and the World Photography Organisation (WPO), which users of this website are invited to participate in. It is a nine-month social documentary initiative, #FutureofCities.

While Panos photographers have begun examining this change through topics such as urban farming, eco-housing, technological innovations, elastic environments, children at play, green spaces, economic divides and much more, you are invited to share your own images for the project.

The Army Corp of Engineers carried out an ambitious plan to encase the Los Angeles River in concrete after catastrophic floods in the 1930s led to calls for flood control. Except for a few places where the muddy bottom was impossible to replace, the river was turned into a concrete drainage channel. The ecology of the river disappeared, making room for development and a flood-free city.
