As Hong Kong's pro-democracy protesters return to the city's streets, Future London reflects on a trip to the city last year as initial protests were subsiding. Now that the fight for the future of the city once again takes to the city's streets, parks and public spaces, we take a look back at the scene three months ago when the first battle lines were drawn.

While yellow traces of the Umbrella Revolution littered the city's streets, the usually bustling boulevards appeared subdued – empty of all but the most committed protesters, free from the usual traffic that engulfs the streets. Instead, we find barricades dissecting empty streets, views of void of street life (motorised or other) and signs declaring the battle for the city, held up by tape alone- signs of urban confrontation and of the wider battle for the future of the city.
