Dr. Mark LeChevallier is the Director of Innovation & Environmental Stewardship for American Water in Voorhees, NJ. He received his Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in Microbiology from Oregon State University in 1978 and 1980 and his Ph.D. in Microbiology in 1985 from Montana State University. Dr. LeChevallier is also known around the industry for his talent for making complex scientific concepts more easily understandable to the general public. Dr. LeChevallier has been dedicated to advancing the science of water for more than 30 years through participation in national research foundations, including conducting nearly $1.5 million of research on the topic of water reuse and planning. He has also served as principal investigator or co-investigator on nearly 60 research grants totaling over $25.5 million. Additionally, he has served on a variety of professional committees at the local and national level, including several for AWWA and U.S. EPA.
