As a designer, thinker and writer, Atul’s interests lie in those inherent qualities that make buildings, spaces and places loved by the people that inhabit them. Having studied and worked on projects across the world, Atul firmly believes that the culture of a place holds the key to its sustainable future.
Prior to arriving in the Unites States, Atul earned his Bachelor in Architecture from the Chandigarh College of Architecture, a premiere Indian institution. Having graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master in Urban Design in 2005, Atul has been working in architecture and urban design studios across the country. Over the past 10 years, Atul has gained international experience in both architecture and urban design, from studying in an urban laboratory like Chandigarh, to working globally with firms such as UDA, DPZ and Torti Gallas & Partners. The diverse nature of these experiences has led Atul to appreciate the uniqueness of each site, culture and climate. It has also honed his ability to create designs that merge local heritage with aspirations towards modernity.
Atul believes that moving forward in a turbulent socio-economic landscape, designers will have to rely more and more on the wisdom that communities have gathered over centuries. We will have to think simply and design sensibly, devoting ourselves to the greater good of the communities we cherish and learn from every day.
