Small ideas don’t exist when your aim is to change the world, but it’s still necessary to crawl before you walk. Transitions and evolution are how ideas truly achieve their full potential. For sustainability, recycling and alternative energy programs introduced the masses to environmental forward thinking and focused on changing how people live.
Now the focus has transitioned to where people live. The green building industry is growing like kudzu and 2009 will be another giant step forward. The idea of sustainable homes served as a foundation to building larger eco-friendly buildings and even stadiums. So what’s next? A fully sustainable city block... in Dallas, Texas.
Urban Re:Vision asks the question: “What if one entire city block served as the model for sustainable design for the world?” The bigger question: “How would you create this building block?”
Re:Vision Dallas is an opportunity to transform one “Big D” city block into an instrument of inspiration for the future. This is not a concept, this development is happening. Dallas, Texas has been selected as the city where this fully sustainable city block will live. With the land secured and supporting organizations ready and waiting, the next step is harvesting those ideas churning in that juicy brain of yours.
Friendly competition brings out the best in us all and is the backbone of this Urban Re:Vision project.
Re:Vision Dallas is seeking site-specific designs from all professions and disciplines. Architects, engineers, green building organizations, urban planners, college students, etc. are all invited to submit plans and designs for this monumental project. If worldwide notoriety and altering the future of mankind isn’t reward enough, there are other perks. The competition jury will award three cash prizes, and three honorable mentions. The prize for each of the three finalists is $25,000. Honorable mentions will be awarded $1,000. The top three finalists will receive a consultation with Central Dallas CDC. These initial discussions do not guarantee that the winners will be hired, but doors, minds and ears will be open. All cash prizes will be awarded.
Changes in philosophy alter behavior. The green movement has long ago changed our beliefs and people are beginning to change their behavior to match new ideas. When Re:Vision Dallas is completed there will be a tangible example of what is possible and a springboard for what’s next regarding socially responsible design and construction. Opportunity for innovation is officially knocking on your door as the next transition is waiting to be triggered . Are you ready to walk?
