Why are we overlooking our smallest cities in discussions about reinventing cities?
We're blinded by "big" — big population centers, big buildings, big everything.
- Most small city and rural downtowns already have human-scale, compact, and walkable infrastructure
- Most are in varying stages of distress and revitalization, also known as OPPORTUNITY
- Most are extremely welcoming of new business and entrepreneurial creativity
This manifesto is based on my experience living and working in three major cities (Sydney, Los Angeles, and New York City) before relocating to a small city (pop. 22,000) and starting a brick-and-mortar business.
