On Bike lanes 2.0: now or soon in a city near you
Seperated cycle tracks is a clever and "legitimate" way to reclaim street space which was lost to the car. In addition, what a better recognition of cyclists as equal road users than giving them their own space? Buses, trams, cars and pedestrians have their own space, why not the cyclists?
The point is not to pidgeonhole the bicycle into the traffic mess which was created by (and for) the car but to use it (the bicycle) as a means to remedy it (the mess).
